    How to avoid unpleasant odours from your washing machine

    The purpose of a high-efficiency washer is to conserve water and energy and to be gentle on your clothing.

     

    What Causes the Odor in The Washing Machine?

     

    1) The front loader problem

    Mold tends to grow in dark wet places. Due to poor ventilation, the water is also not allowed to evaporate from the washer therefore, between the loads of clothing, the water is stagnated.

    2) The Temperature of the water

    Due to the high-efficiency machine, it needs to maintain a warmer water temperature. Therefore, when purchasing a machine, it is good to know these factors to make a proper decision.

    The cool water is not as effective for the detergents to fully activate. Thus, leaving a deposit inside the washer and providing a food source for  mold to grow on.

    3) The use of excessive detergent

    As previously stated, the detergent may provide a source for mold to grow on.

    There are prescribed doses for each washing machine and the type of load.

    Therefore, the low water usage, requires less detergent

    4) The use of Liquid Fabric Softener

    This leaves significant amounts of residues that in turn provides a source of food for mold to grow.

    5) Foreign objects in the drainage

    The ability of the washer to drain the objects with the water pressure, may require a pump to effectively remove the objects.

     

    High- Efficiency washing machines require warm water and less detergent.

      

    What Can You Do to Prevent Washing Machine Odor?

     

    The following steps are suggested for the problem in your washer:

    1)  Using warmer temperature settings

    2) Avoid the use of LIQUID fabric softeners

    3) Use the manual of the washing machine for the recommended amount and type of detergent listed for the type of load.

    4) Find a product designed to clean your washing machine at least 1-2 months.

    5) Leave the door open to ventilate the washer.
