Sting on Vaccination Card Fraud

A nurse and an administrative clerk are among six people arrested in connection with the sale of fake vaccination cards.

Police received a tip-off, which led officers of the Fraud Squad, Special Investigations Unit and the Northern Division, to conduct two sting operations in the South Western and Northern Divisions, on Monday.

In the first exercise, Fraud Squad officers went to the Fyzabad Health Centre, where they observed a nurse pretending to administer a vaccine. The nurse then issued a COVID-19 vaccination card to the person for a fee.

The suspect was arrested and further enquiries resulted in the arrest of several others. One of the individuals subsequently tested positive for COVID-19.

Police confirmed that special arrangements have been made to ensure the safety and welfare of the officers involved in the operation and the COVID-19 positive suspect.

During a similar operation in the Northern Division, a clerk attached to the North Central Regional Health Authority was caught receiving a sum of cash after handing over a vaccination card to an individual. The suspects were arrested and the card and cash seized.

The arrests are the latest in the crack down on the conspiracy to illegally issue false Covid-19 vaccination cards.
